Asturias
The Principality of Asturias (Asturian Asturian ) is an autonomous community of Spain .
Located in the north of Spain it occupies an area of 10,603.57 square kilometers , in which 1,085,289 people live (INE , 2009) .2 Border west with Galicia , the north with the Cantabrian Sea , east and south Cantabria with the province of Leon ( Castilla y León).
Called the Principality for historical reasons, to bear the heir to the throne of Spain the title of Prince of Asturias. Its capital is the city of Oviedo , while Gijón is the most populous city.
Villaviciosa
Villaviciosa is a municipality in the Autonomous Community of Asturias ( Spain ) , a parish of the council and a town , capital of the council , belonging to the parish.
The council bounded on the north by the Cantabrian Sea , south to Sariego, Nava , Cabranes and Piloña , west to Gijon and Siero and east Colunga.
The council is twinned with Villaviciosa , Madrid. Its estuary is the largest of Asturias. There is an important fishing port in bowls .
It is known for the quality of its cider and abundance in pumaraes (the name is known in Asturias groves of apple trees ) . In the Middle Ages it was called Maliayo , a name which resulted in the gentile known maliayés . The current name ” Villaviciosa ” means “fertile village ” .
